The Smart-Fly TurboReg provides the user with battery redundancy, an adjustable regulator and failsafe operation with the optional remote on/off switch and for aircraft with engines of 100cc size and up. The TurboReg provides the highest power density of any available regulator for giant scale aircraft. The TurboReg combines several features into one lightweight unit. It has dual battery inputs with isolation between the two batteries. In case of a catastrophic failure of one
battery the other can continue to supply power to the aircraft. The TurboReg has dual regulation transistors with a common control circuit. The dual transistors share the current through the regulator resulting in a more reliable regulator. The TurboReg also has dual output connectors for redundancy when connecting to a PowerExpander. All power input and output connectors are Deans UltraPlugs to handle the high current the TurboReg is capable of handing. The TurboReg’s output voltage is continuously adjustable from 5.2 volts to 6.5 volts and can supply 17.5 amps continuous current when the input voltage is 8.4 volts and the regulator is set to an output voltage of 6.0 volts. The TurboReg uses a computer-grade brushless fan to provide active cooling of the regulator.
The TurboReg also has failsafe operation with the optional remote on/off failsafe-switch. The switch actually turns the failsafe regulator on and off and does not carry the system load current. If the switch or wiring between the switch and failsafe regulator were to fail the regulator stays in the "On" state until you unplug it from the battery. Smart-Fly offers an optional Pin & Flag failsafe switch. The idea behind this switch is that a pin, with a flag, is inserted into the switch and turns your system off. To fly you remove the pin and flag from the switch and your system is turned on. The only way for your system to be turned off is to replace the pin. The optional failsafe-switch and charge-lead package (SMF1013) comes with the failsafe-switch, two charge leads and two Ernst charge jacks.
