FEATURES

Background:

We know you will enjoy this little vintage number ripped from the pages of the May 11, 1912 edition of Flight magazine and now offered in kit form ready to patrol your school yard or gymnasium. The 1911 Caudron monoplane designed by René Caudron was first flown in December 1911 and competed in the 1912 Aerial Derby. The design featured simple wood and fabric construction, absurdly small wings, and was fitted with the latest from Anzani, a 45 h.p. prototype 6 cylinder radial. With the Anzani motivating the lightweight airframe, a 1911 Caudron could really move out and was noted to cross the channel "at a speed of not less than ninety-five miles per hour".

Kit Features:

Steven's Models' rendition of this pioneering design retains the slender lines and profile that net the model a delightfully smooth feel. This model is perfectly at home within the confines of the local gymnasium or the field behind your chateau. Ample dihedral, generous washout, and appropriate flying surface volume equal great stability that will allow your mind to wander into the cockpit and back in time as you pilot this splendid craft on those dawn and dusk patrols of the local weed patch.

Characterized by Steven's signature engineering that produces a superb fit and logical assembly, even the novice builder can have a completed airframe ready in one - two evenings. In addition to thoughtful step-by-step photo illustrated instructions, we go out of the way to hand select the finest AAA balsa and hardwoods for your 1911 Caudron kit and provide a logical assortment of scale details and hardware components that allow you to produce an impressive example of this flying classic. We encourage advanced builders add their own finishing touches and have provided pre-cut scale rigging points and fabricated balsa wheel covers for the optional 1-1/2" spindle wheels [DUB150ML].

  • Photo illustrated step-by-step assembly instructions
