History of the Fram Polar Ship

The Fram Ship was a distinguished Norwegian vessel designed to withstand the extreme conditions of late 19th-century polar expeditions. Built in 1892, its reinforced construction allowed it to venture into the inhospitable regions of the Arctic and Antarctica. Under the command of the renowned Fridtjof Nansen, the Fram reached previously uncharted latitudes, playing a key role in the search for new routes through the ice. Later, the ship served in the expeditions of explorer Otto Sverdrup, mapping unknown areas of northern Canada, and in those of the legendary Roald Amundsen, who, with the Fram’s help, became the first man to reach the South Pole in 1911.

Thanks to these achievements, the Fram is considered one of the most famous polar exploration ships in history.

Where to See the Fram Ship: The Fram Museum in Oslo

Today, the historic Fram Ship, a symbol of the great Norwegian polar expeditions, resides at the Fram Museum in Oslo, one of the most visited and renowned museums in the city. This prestigious museum is a must-see for travelers interested in polar exploration and maritime history, as it provides a unique experience combining detailed information, immersive exhibits, and the chance to closely admire the resilient vessel that once braved the Arctic and Antarctic ice fields.

The Fram Museum has become a world-renowned landmark, reflecting the legacy of adventurers like Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen, whose feats helped broaden our understanding of the most remote regions of the planet.

With the new Fram Ship modeling kit offered by OcCre, you have the opportunity to faithfully recreate this iconic piece of polar exploration. Enjoy a unique experience, paying tribute to a ship that has left an indelible mark on history and continues to inspire everyone who visits the Fram Museum in Oslo.
