The Lockheed P-38 Lightning is an iconic US fighter from WWII. Its twin Allison V12 engines were mounted in booms to free-up the nose so it could house a fearsome array of 4 x M2 Browning machine guns and a 20mm cannon. In 2019, after several years of painstaking research, Tamiya released a kit of this sleek aircraft in the 1:48 Aircraft Series (No.120). In this ‘How To Build’ book, TMMI’s Editor, Marcus Nicholls, presents four built-up examples, one each from Brett Green and Spencer Pollard and two from Marcus Nicholls. One of Marcus’s models incorporates resin and PE super-detail sets from Eduard, showing it's use in taking the detail to an even higher level. New photos of the other models show how Green and Pollard built and painted the models in their own styles. Tthe following topics are covered: Adding PE parts, using resin upgrade components, extending the nose undercarriage leg, upgrading the cockpit detail, weathering the airframe, alternative decal sets MODELS BY Nicholls, Green & Pollard
