The fabulous Gee Bee Super Sportster won the 1932 Thompson Trophy race at an average speed of 253 mph. This was probably the most thrilling race the word had ever seen. The radical design philosophy was simple, maximum power matched to a minimum airframe. When combined with Jimmie Doolittle it became a legend and the holder of the World Absolute Speed record at 196 mph in 1932. To put this into perspective, the world's finest fighters were struggling to obtain 200 mph!
This Dare/Hewitt Laser Cut scale model is designed to capture the magic of the aircraft. If you think pigs can't fly, this is not the model for you. The prototype flies at 30 mph, and is rubber powered! The only deviation from scale is the flat-bottomed wing section employed. The R-1 makes a very stable, but fast model...like the full size machine. Easily converted to Electric R/C.
