At Great Hobbies we stock only top quality balsa provided by such manufacturers as Sig and Trillium. There may be cheaper sources of balsa for us, but we are convinced that quality is a number one requirement and we are confident that our balsa will help your scratch-built model fly better with the lines we have chosen!
Contest Balsa
There are a limited number of sizes of balsa sheets that are available in light-weight, contest grade for projects where weight is of the utmost importance and strength is not as much an issue. These only come in 3 inch widths and in 36 inch lengths as listed.
Balsa Sheets and Planks
Balsa sheets and planks are available in 3, 4 and 6 inch widths with thicknesses varying from 1/32" to 4". These come in 36 and 48 inch lengths and the dimensions given are thickness by width by length.
Balsa Sticks
Balsa sticks are available in a wide range of sizes and in 36 and 48 inch lengths. The dimensions given are thickness by width by length.
Leading Edge Stock
You can purchase balsa sticks pre-shaped to a leading edge contour. These come in 36 inch lengths and the dimensions given are height by width by length.
Trailing Edge Stock
You can purchase balsa sticks pre-shaped with a trailing edge taper. These come in 36 inch lengths and the dimensions given are height by width by length.
Aileron Stock
You can purchase balsa sticks that are tapered like the trailing edge stock but that have the leading edge rounded. These are ideal for control surfaces, particularly aileron stock. They come in 36 inch lengths and the dimensions given are maximum thickness by width by length.
Triangular Stock
Triangular stock is ideal for reinforcing the corners of a fuselage box structure. It can add strength and also give you the ability to round the corners. They come in 36 inch lengths and the dimensions given are for the sides at right angles to each other by the length.
