The brig Mercury, launched in 1820 in Sevastopol, is an icon of the Russian navy. Initially designed as a patrol ship to defend the Caucasus coast, the Mercury fought heroically in many naval battles. Among the most famous was one against a Turkish fleet superior in numbers, demonstrating extraordinary endurance and courage. Its history is steeped in episodes of military valor that make it a symbol of Russian maritime power and national pride.
